Revellers Escape Canadian Death Rave
Halifax party police who busted a rave at an abandoned bunker last weekend did so because they feared badly positioned generators could have poisoned clubbers, they claimed this week.
“Certainly, there is the concern that had it not been shut down, . . . people could have suffered the effects of the carbon monoxide,” police spokesman Brian Palmeter told reporters.
“Officers commented how overwhelming the exhaust fumes were and actually ended up calling Halifax regional fire and emergency service because of that, and because of the unresponsive female we found there,” he added.
As police moved in to stop the party in the early hours, numerous revellers, some dressed in skimpy club clothes, scattered into the surrounding snow covered forest, press reports said. Others from amongst the 120 clubbers present were left shivering outside the bunker in sub zero temperatures for up to four hours with no transport back to town.
The carbon monoxide factor provoked frenzied media reports on both Canadian TV and in national press, most of which emphasized the potentially deadly perils the mainly teenage revellers risked,. However, the vast bulk of partygoers who posted comments on a Facebook page set up later called ‘I Survived the Rave @ York Redoubt’ instead sounded ecstatic.
“That was pretty memorable for my first rave. In a good way though,” said Liam Connor.
“But like exposure to poisonous fumes and hardcore police were actually not that fun in retrospect. But it was still an awesome time. And an adventure at least, one to tell the grandkids about,” he mused.
“Safe to say that was the sketchiest yet most epic mini-rave I’ve ever experienced,” fellow partygoer Chelsea Richardson agreed, “Sprinting down the path in the middle of what seemed like buttfuck nowhere, I don’t regret the $20, plus the graffiti on the walls made it that much better,” she said.
James Janssen described the night as ‘fucking epic’ and said he ‘loved everything’ about the party.
“Loved my friends there, loved the sketchiness of it, loved that it made the news, loved the last minute changes that ADDED to the sketchiness, loved that it only lasted for as long as it did, because we probably would have died,” he said.
“FOR MY FIRST RAVE I HAD A GOOD FUCKING TIME
” Elijah D Costa concurred (his capitals), “Thanks to everyone who made this a great night for me, I hope I see everyone, and more at the next one.”
