Thousands have signed a petition calling on Fox News hostess Megyn Kelly to be publically sprayed with pepper spray after she downplayed the brutality of Lt. John Pike’s behaviour after he assaulted defenceless students with the weapons grade chemical at UC Davis University.

Ms Kelly said the tear-gas style spray was ‘a food product, essentially’ and speculated whether it had been diluted (‘it reportedly hadn’t’, the petition notes).

“To back up your claim that pepper spray is a food product, please consume as much of it as was sprayed on each protestor’s face, in one sitting, on camera at Fox News. You may mix the spray with one serving of food or drink, as I am not a sadist. Then, please relate the effects to your audience,” the petition asks.

“Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly: Eat or drink a full dose of pepper spray on national television.”

The shaven headed thickset cop responsible for cheerfully spraying the students as they sat defenceless on the floor was also this week targeted by online activist group Anonymous who released his home address and personal details in a video threatening revenge.

“We have no problem targeting police and releasing their information even if it puts them at risk. We want them to experience just a taste of the brutality and misery they serve us on an everyday basis,” Anonymous said (in a statement picked up by the Daily Mail.

“Expect our full wrath. Anonymous seeks to avenge all protesters. We are going to make you squeal like a pig,” they vowed. (Daily Mail: http://bit.ly/utRqxG )

The incident also provoked interest on Amazon where Lt Pike’s choice of Pepper Spray received scores of enthusiastic product endorsements.

“Accept no substitutes when casually repressing students,” the site’s ‘Most Helpful Customer Review’ recommends (as voted for by 4,893 of 4,974 people)

“Whenever I need to breezily inflict discipline on unruly citizens, I know I can trust Defense Technology 56895 MK-9 Stream, 1.3% Red Band/1.3% Blue Band Pepper Spray to get the job done! The power of reason is no match for Defense Technology’s superior repression power,” the review explains.

“When I feel threatened by students, no matter how unarmed, peaceful and seated they may be, I know that Defense Technology 56895 MK-9 Stream, 1.3% Red Band/1.3% Blue Band Pepper Spray has got my back as I casually spray away at point blank range.”

“It really is the Cadillac of citizen repression technology. Buy a whole case!” (Click here to buy; http://amzn.to/w3lDiM )

Single canisters retail at Amazon for US$73.92 though Greg’ from Peppersprayplus.com told Mashable.com  that cheaper deals are easy to find.

“The market is really, really saturated and business isn’t great,” he complained, “Big companies like Walmart and Amazon are taking over everything, the pepper spray market included.” (Mashable; http://on.mash.to/rYEhhS )
