Brimstone & Treacle’s Secret Island Release (Beatport)
Jonty Skrufff and D.A.V.E. The Drummer’s driving tech-house flavoured tune Brimstone & Treacle features on a new compilation celebrating Sweden’s Secret Island Nation Festival (SIN) which was released this week by Darek Records.
The compilation, a fund-raiser for SIN, includes 12 tracks by island regulars as well as cuts from occasional visitors including David Keno, Samuel L Sessions and Ian Pooley.
“I’ve attended SIN every year since 2008 and it’s one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to: for its crowd (500 or so Berliners and Swedes), its location (a windswept deserted rocky island) and uniquely special- indeed magical- vibe,” says Jonty.
“I’m really happy to contribute the track which I made with a London friend Henry Cullen (aka D.A.V.E. The Drummer) a while back.”
The duo met up in Henry’s Kent studio in 2009 and co-produced a number of tracks together over the course of two 48-hour sessions.
“I’ve known Henry since his Back to The Planet days and attended countless squat party raves in the 90s where Henry and his killer acid tekno tracks, provided the dominant soundtrack,” he recalls.
“Then about ten years ago we met up again in Brazil when he was DJing at a fantastic jungle rave and we had lunch together back in Sao Paulo in the Monday after the party. I was enormously impressed and inspired by Henry’s attitude and ability to invent-and re-invent his own life so I’m really proud and happy to have made some music with him which is now seeing the light of day,’ says Jonty.
The track was previously supported by a number of DJs including Kris Menace and DJ Fergie as well as Daily Star deputy editor (and renowned spinner) Mark Kavanagh.
“Brimstone and Treacle is just fantastic, a thumping progressive fusion of funky tech-house, hard-ass techno and old skool wild pitch,” said Mark.
“Fabulous to see you working with Henry.”
