Barefoot Doctor Bit: Does Believing in the Afterlife Make Sense?
.
.
Barefoot Doctor: “There’s nothing wrong in believing in the afterlife, as long as you view it symbolically. The metaphor of having your ego crucified to be resurrected as a free unencumbered spirit resonates deeply within us all, one way or another, and believing in it can do you no real harm.
.
Believing in the afterlife is actually the same as believing in the afore-life – if it comforts you, why not? Of course, no one knows what happens when you exit your body, whether your consciousness remains unbroken and continuous somehow or whether you face total oblivion.
.
Either way, the key to enlightenment and general sanity is to base yourself firmly in the here and now – you’ll deal with dying when you get there. Until then, enjoy yourself, as you never how long you have left.”
