Pacha Ibiza Goes ‘Deep-Tech’
Pacha’s new musical chief Steve Hulme chatted about the dramatically different new headline DJs they’ve recruited for the upcoming summer season this week and said they’re planning to radically reinvent the uber-chic Ibiza institution.
Talking to top Balearic blogger Danny Kay, he said the decision to replace EDM pop star Tiesto and long running mainstream house DJ Erick Morillo with rising stars including Solomun and Guy Gerber he said the younger owners of the Balearic superclub felt it was time to embrace new music and styles.’
“The Deep-Tech sound was where we wanted to go musically and we set about designing parties around that genre. The whole team at Pacha were of the opinion that we should be part of the scene and not apart from it,” he said.
Pacha’s new musical direction was also discussed in the New York Times this week, who quoted co-owner José Urgell, aka Piti as saying last month that ‘, “electronic music hasn’t evolved in 20 years and is for idiots.’
The article (headlined ‘Trouble Stalking Night-Life Paradise’) also included quotes from former Pacha general manager and chief booker Danny Whittle, whose departure last autumn provoked all the changes.
“This is going to cost them a fortune,” Danny reportedly predicted of Pacha’s new direction. “I am either dealing with madness or genius, and it’s just about to come out in the wash.” http://nyti.ms/10H3V34
Publicists for Danny’s new rival club Bomba Ibiza meanwhile issued a press release announcing that the Ibiza Town venue will be opening on May 22 with DJs including former Pacha headliners Luciano, Erick Morillo and Defected hosting weekly parties throughout the summer season.
Emphasing ‘the fact that this is not a VIP club, of its full capacity around 30% of it will be given over to tables’ the press release also revealed the club will have a a purpose built sound system- ‘the first ever custom made Pioneer Sound System.’
“Bomba is also aware that every serious venue is only as good as the sound quality it delivers,” the release added.
“As a world first, Bomba Ibiza will have a bespoke, custom built sound system designed exclusively for them by Pioneer, engineered through a meticulous development process by dance music’s most innovative professional audio company.”
