Ibiza’s Bomba (Temporarily) Defused
Ibiza’s much anticipated new club Bomba has cancelled plans to open during this week’s IMS EDM music convention, announcing instead that the club opening ‘has been moved to a later date, to be announced soon’.
Well informed Ibiza blogger Danny Kay said the postponement was due to ongoing licensing issues and predicted that owners including Ex Pacha chief Danny Whittle and uber-wealthy investor Giuseppe Cipriani might have to wait until August to begin ‘refurbishing the dilapidated old club’.
Bomba, however, remained bullish, promising ‘exciting surprises yet to be announced’ alongside their already confirmed line-up of Vagabundos, Defected, and Erick Morillo.
“Bomba maintains its mission to deliver a venue that is focused on incredible music and DJs, with a world class clubbing experience,” they stressed in a press statement.
“So soldiering on and in true Ibiza spirit the team announces a series of special one-off parties in Giuseppe Cipriani’s restaurant, Downtown Ibiza. This will kick off on Wednesday May 22nd with an exclusive set from Disclosure followed by Fatboy Slim on Thursday May 23rd with more to be announced soon.”
Defected label chief Simon Dunmore was similarly upbeat (and unusually philosophical) about the delay.
“I see this as simply furthering the anticipation for what we expect will be the start of a new era for Defected in Ibiza,” he stated in a follow-up statement.
“Our partnership with Bomba is a long term venture. Cipriani owns venues that are among the best in the world and require a higher level of care and attention than most; Bomba will be no exception. This minor delay is unfortunate, but unavoidable.
You only get one shot at opening a club for the first time – especially one as ambitious as this. Rest assured that Bomba management are working tirelessly in order to bring you the best parties on the island in 2013 and beyond.” (Defected.com)
