Cops Close London’s East Village
Acclaimed underground Shoreditch club East Village had its licence revoked this week, after cops claimed two people involved in the club are ‘connected to serious crime’ following a police investigation.
“A police application to close East Village Nightclub pending a full licence review has been granted. East Village is closed,” Hackney Police wrote on Twitter.
“A joint Op between the Money Laundering Team and Licensing Unit has led to the arrest of two men connected to East Village nightclub for an offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act,” they added. (http://bit.ly/16lgBjP )
Club staff said the closure was shocking and totally unexpected’ in a statement posted online and said they hope the closure will be reversed.
Resident DJ and music chief Stuart Patterson said he was equally upset.
“After nearly 6 years of East Village and 4 years of Lodge this is pretty devastating after all the hard work,” he wrote (also on the club’s Facebook page).
“So… East Village has had its license suspended which came to me as an absolute shock and is completely unconnected to me so I’m gutted to say the least (please don’t ask what it is connected to as its a legal matter now).”
London legend Colin Dale was amongst many who posted messages of support.
“Here’s wishing it all works out for you guys…..all the best,” said Dale. “Really hope it’s not too long before you’re back and things are back to normal.” (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EastVillageClub )
