DJ Skills No Longer Necessary for Superstar Success
Light Group Creative Director Nick Gold chatted to the Las Vegas Weekly this week about the qualities Vegas’ highest paid DJs now need to earn US$100,000 plus fees and suggested theatrical talents and an ability to jump around on stage skilfully are the key prerequisites.
“With these DJs, it’s not about spinning records, it’s about putting on a performance,” he told the newspaper, “They are the center focal point.”
The Light Group boss also suggested uber-rich bottle service banker types are increasingly seeking ‘holistic and egalitarian nightlife experiences’ just as the Las Vegas Review Journal revealed that one patron at the Marquee Club recently bought a $250,000 bottle of champagne on condition the DJ played his request.
Gossip columnist Doug Elfman said superstar DJ lawyer Ed Shapiro told him the story, explaining that the unnamed jock (who played the track) and his fellow superstar DJs also need to be ‘good at the bottle service’ to earn their excess fees.
In more EDM/ superstar DJ news, Paris Hilton hinted that she’ll soon be back challenging Deadmau5, Avicii and Tiesto types, telling the Daily Beast the upcoming album is ‘almost finished’.
“Lil Wayne and some other surprise guests will be on the album, and it’s going to be so sick,” Paris promised, “It’s an electropop album with some dance-y songs.”
