Get Physical’s Nick Galemore & Edouard Meen on Pioneer DJ Radio: We’re Both Real Bitches (interview)
Get Physical soldiers/ DJ duo Nick Galemore & Edouard Meen deliver a special DJ mix for Germany Calling on Pioneer DJ Radio this week and revealed how their relationship- both musical and personal- usually works.
“We’re both bossy and real bitches when it comes to have the last word. But we tend to think it’s more productive than saying yes all the time,” they explained.
“Nick is the technician, the master of the buttons, the engineer. Edouard is bringing most of the tracks, the raw material, track selection is his thing,’ they continued (slipping into the third person), “Then Nick builds up the story and we polish it and shape it together.”
Nick & Edouard’s DJ mix for Germany Calling on Pioneer DJ Radio broadcasts on Friday November 22 (show-time is 14.00 CET/ London 13.00) then on Sunday November 24 (show-time 19.00-21.00 CET):
Skrufff (Jonty Skrufff): What approach did you take with the mix?
Nick & Edouard: “There was no specific approach or theme for this one, been gathering some really cool stuff for a while now and really wanted to see how some tracks would react together. It’s Autumn here in Berlin now as well and we think this was the main influence on us ”
Skrufff: You mentioned before this interview that the mix might be rather quiet,
Why? Are you the kind of DJS who never go in the red? How much do you consider yourself risk averse?
Nick & Edouard: “Well the mix is not so quiet in the end, the part around 30 min with Scala rising is quite uplifting, we think. But the main point in this mix was not to take risks, it was more about giving the perfect render, the exact feeling that we wanted to share. There might be some kind of a risk too.”
Skrufff: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? And the biggest one that went wrong?
Nick & Edouard: “We almost took a risk in this mix, we wanted to play a hip hop track at the end, hahaha. But we didn’t, so nothing went wrong, or maybe ? Have a listen and let us know.”
Skrufff: What made the two of you decide to become a partnership? What qualities attract you to each other?
Nick & Edouard: “Well we’re buddies before everything else, and the rest comes from that. It was pretty obvious and logical to make music together at some point, it just became natural.”
Skrufff: Anything else to add?
Nick & Edouard: “Use headphones listening to this one, sometimes 3 or 4 tracks are playing at the same time and you’ll truly appreciate it if you distinguish all its subtleties. Other than that, it was a real pleasure to be invited here and an even bigger one to make this mix.”
