Norfolk Cops’ Clown Caution
Top Norfolk cop Superintendent Carl Edwards advised people to keep calm and carry on this week after reports emerged of clowns wearing red wigs intimidating passer-bys.
The heavily made-up harlequins reportedly stared sinisterly at citizens strolling by, then ran after those people who looked scared, for short distances.
Superintendent Edwards said that while it’s not yet technically illegal to dress as a clown in the UK, he’s ordered his officers to give ‘strong words of advice’ to any clowns spotted acting suspiciously and in the meantime urged citizens to try and maintain a straight face.
.”The most effective way to behave if you are to see someone dressed up is to give no reaction,” he recommended, “because that’s what they are after.” (Guardian: http://bit.ly/1cdlHzI )
Details of the clown crisis emerged just as Norfolk police unveiled a new scheme to breath-test clubbers clowning around in the area after having had too much too drink.
The month long trial scheme, which is being marketed under the slogan Are you trollied? #DeepBreath“, is being rolled out at thirty venues across Norfolk with those judged to have drunk too much facing exclusion from the nightclubs.
“All too often we deal with people who are so drunk they cannot think straight and can barely walk,” ’ Inspector Ed Brown told the BBC. (http://bbc.in/1959hg2 )
