US civil liberties group Stop Street Harassment (SSH) have launched an online guide about how to use laws to report bullies, perverts and sex-pests who harass, ogle and intimidate others in public spaces with ‘obscene comments, flashing, up-skirt photos, following, and groping’.
Announcing the new guide, SSH founder Holly Kearl said at least 80% of women and ‘countless men, especially in the LGBQT community’ have been victims of such attacks, many of which are already illegal in most states.
“Laws can influence societal attitudes about what is and is not okay,” she said in a statement.
“Additionally, laws can create consequences to deter harassment and, as many harassers are repeat offenders, reporting incidents may prevent future crimes.” (http://stopstreetharassment.org )
Family values fanatic Patrick Howley attacked the campaign in an interview with Sam Seder on Majority Report in which he said he believes in a “’silent majority of ‘a lot of women met their significant other through a situation that would be defined by the progressive movement as offensive’.
“Ladies, how are you going to feel when the progressives prohibit men from paying you a compliment on your walk home from the bar? You know there’s always one friend of yours who waited all night for that,” Howley demanded.
“And the new rule affects everyone. From the guy who now has to cover his face so as not to look at a hot girl’s tits, to the girl whose tits can no longer be looked at, to the friend of the girl who could have laughed when it happened, to the bar owner standing outside who could have lured them both in for a drink,” he complained.
