Metrosexuals Make Room For Bearded Butchers
Lifestyle trendspotter Marian Salzman, who popularized Mark Simpson’s term ‘metrosexual’ in 2004, suggested this week that ‘what it means to be a man has evolved’ and identified a new breed of fashion conscious men mingling with their still-in-touch-with-their feminine-side metro peers.
“In hip sections of Brooklyn and Portland, Ore., among many other places in between, the male uniform has become ironic facial hair, vintage work boots and plaid flannel shirts,” she told Forbes magazine, “Butchers are the new rock stars.” (Forbes: http://onforb.es/NCWzNH )
Her assessment came just as DNA.info identified a ’hipster beard craze’ in New York areas such as Williamsburg, with increasing numbers of men spending US$7000 on hair transports to pimp their beards.
“Whether you are talking about the Brooklyn hipster or the advertising executive, the look is definitely to have a bit of facial hair,” facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Epstein told DNA, “I get a lot of detail-oriented people,” he added, “artists, architects.” (DNA: http://dnain.fo/MXLmqS )
