Saudi Sheik Outlaws All-U-Can-Eat Buffets
Leading religious leader Sheik Saleh al-Fawzan issued a fatwa against all-you-can-eat buffets this week, after deciding the open-ended nature of the culinary concept violates Islamic law.
“Whoever enters the buffet and eats for 10 or 50 riyals without deciding the quantity they will eat is violating Sharia law,” Sheik Fawzan decreed, in a statement delivered on local TV Station Quranic. (Independent: http://bit.ly/1iJBOeS )
The dangers of indulging at all-you-can-eat buffets and similarly tempting Smörgåsbords was emphasized in England some years ago when a man was arrested and charged with leaving a ‘trail of stench’ after carrying out a DIY chemical attack on a Tesco superstore in Gloucester with a ‘squeezy sports bottle’ loaded with urine and faeces.
“It is alleged that a man was spraying a foul-smelling substance, thought to be urine, on the foodstuffs, including the salad bar, fruits and meat,” a Gloucestershire police spokesman confirmed during the trail of 42 year old suspect Sahnoun Daifallah. “The device he was using is described as a kind of tube,” he added.
In later trial reports, the Algerian born chemist was revealed to have used a ‘black laptop computer with a vapour coming from the bag being sprayed on the shelves.’ He was jailed for 9 years and ordered to be deported upon release. (BBC: http://bbc.in/1d6PsbW )
