Shackleton Barred from USA
British electronic music producer Shackleton has been forced to cancel a series of upcoming DJ gigs in America after Immigration officials responded with ‘complete denial’ to his application for a work permit.
In a statement, the co-founder of Skull Disco and founder of Woe To The Septic Heart said he was extremely disappointed by the US authority’s unexplained stance.
“Please be assured that Surefire Agency and myself have made every effort to make a successful application and that we are really disappointed not only for ourselves but also, and even more so, for the promoters who have planned events for me and for the people who had possibly been planning to attend the shows,” he said.
12 months earlier Berghain resident (and fellow Berlin based producer) Marcel Dettmann experienced similar problems with US immigration and also issued a statement blaming ‘unexpected Visa issues’ which forced him to cancel bookings including one at New York’s Output club and another Detroit’s Movement Electronic Music Festival.
“I can´t even put in words how gutted I am to miss those incredible opportunities to play, as I was so much looking forward to it,” said Marcel in a statement posted on Facebook. “I am very, very sorry and will definitely make it up for everybody who was about to come and see me. I promise to come over as soon as possible!” (
12 months on, Marcel has sorted out his problems and plays Mysteryland USA 2014 this Saturday (May 24: alongside EDM superstars Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Fedde le Grand, Nicky Romero- not on the same stage!)
