Will.I.Am Disses ‘Dance Music’
EDM icon Will.I.Am has ridiculed rich ravers who get drunk but don’t dance at Vegas’ uber-pricey superclubs, telling the New Yorker Magazine ‘a hit in DJ land is how much alcohol is bought’.
“They shouldn’t even call it dance music,” the Black Eyed Peas vocoder king also complained in a lengthy tirade against the EDM the bankers spending thousands on Vegas’ banquettes and bottle service are typically forced to listen to, “they should call it look-at-the-DJ-and-get-drunk music,” he suggested (New Yorker)
Underground house hero Seth Troxler also railed against the ‘rich idiots in Vegas’ clubs in a hilarious rant in Vice Magazine’s Thump spin-off this week, in which he also branded EDM DJs ‘the worst people ever’ for their ‘insane stardom syndrome’ personalities (in particular Avicii- ‘a fucking cunt’ and Steve Aoki- ‘an overpaid, untalented, cake-throwing cunt’).
“EDM plays host to a profound delusion about what electronic music and dance culture are,” Seth continued, adding ‘it’s ridiculous music, made by ridiculous, un-credible people.” (Thump)
In more EDM news, Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) unveiled details of their latest ‘VIP’ packages, which include helicopter shuttle rides for US500 one way and bottle service drinks and a ‘beautifully designed VIP deck . . . , right in the middle of the action”, said Pasqualle Rotella.
VIP tickets cost from US$2000 per person, EDC revealed.
“VIP table guests will receive premier amenities including golf cart transportation from the entrance to their table where they will be greeted with gift bags full of EDC swag,” the added, (“as well as) a private cabana which allows guests to enjoy a complete bottle service menu and a diverse menu of food options with attentive wait-staff on-hand from the nightlife venue,” they promised.
EDC’s most expensive tables cost US$30,000 a night, though ‘all juice and soda mixers (are) included’, the ticket site stresses.
