Tony Blair Suffering from ‘Messiah Complex’

Best-selling author and former close friend and confidante of Tony Blair, Robert Harris, branded him a ‘tragic’ money obsessed narcissist, this week, telling the Daily Mail that Britain’s war-mongering ex Prime Minister succeeded by tricking everybody initially with his superficial charm and nice guy veneer.

“I think there were in Tony things we perhaps didn’t realise at the time – of narcissism, a messiah complex, that had merely accelerated this impulse in him,” he suggested.

“Who knew that he would become a great friend of George Bush and would want to keep bombing people and would be so passionately interested in making money and live this strange life with the billionaire super-rich on yachts and private jets?” (Mail)

His assessment matched the contempt of equally influential author and commentator Max Hastings  who in 2013, tore into Tony over his hypocritical tax avoiding corporate strategies which allowed him to pay just £315,000 in tax on turnover of over £12million made in 2012 by his secretive web of ‘consultancy’ companies.

“When we see unbridled greed grip the entire corporate culture; and when the men in suits seem happy to keep driving their yachts full speed through seas bobbing with the human and financial wreckage of the European economic crisis, something must give,” the acclaimed historian and author suggested.

“Insult is added to injury by seeing Tony Blair’s snout buried in the trough of bank consultancy fees, jetting around the world pocketing millions while the British people whom New Labour steered over a financial cliff struggle to regain solvency.” (Daily Mail )

Messiah complex (Wikipedia): A messiah complex (also known as the Christ complex or saviour complex) is a state of mind in which an individual holds a belief that they are, or are destined to become, a saviour.

“Symptoms of the disorder closely resemble those found in individuals suffering from grandiose delusions (GD) or delusions of grandeur. This form of delusional belief is most often reported in patients suffering from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

“Examples (of sufferers) include Jim Jones, David Koresh, Hugo Chávez, and Inri Cristo.”
