Airborne Ebola Could ‘Devastate Humanity’

The New York Times warned this week that scientists Ebola could ‘destroy the world’s economies’ and ‘alter history as much as any plague has ever done’, in a terrifying analysis of what could happen if the rapidly spreading virus becomes transmissible through the air.

Pointing out that Canadian scientists already managed to spread the virus by air from pigs to monkeys, Michael T. Osterholm, director of America’s Center for Infectious Disease Research, said many scientists are already secretly expecting airborne ebola soon, threatening a global outbreak via infected individuals boarding planes and flying out of Africa.

DrOsterholm’s chilling warning came just as details emerged of the U.S. State Department placing a bulk order for 160,000 hazmat suits, despite just 1,400 US medical workers currently working in Africa to tackle the epidemic.

“The number of cases is rising exponentially. The disease is spreading far faster than the response. People are increasingly frustrated that it is not being controlled,” Christopher J. Ryan, President of Hazmat suit manufacturer Lakeland Industries said in a statement following the order.

“We encourage all protective apparel companies to increase their manufacturing capacity for sealed seam garments so that our industry can do its part in addressing this threat to global health.” (http://on.mktw.net/1wy1i74 )
