Poison Ant Drug Craze Rocks Dubai
Fresh reports of teenagers in Dubai catching and crushing samsun black ants and smoking them in tobacco joints to get high, emerged this week over 7 years after cops warned that children were turning to the ‘widely available’ poison ants because ‘they are cheaper and safer – in the eyes of the law – than smoking narcotics.” (The National )
Local news portal albawalba.com said many young people, including high achievers, are experimenting with even more dangerous (though technically legal) mind altering substances including solvents and glue.
““It’s cheap, readily available and lasts for days,” one user told Albawalba.com
The ‘bespectacled teenage glue-addict’, Albawalba.com continued “aspires to become a pilot,”
Details of the escalating ants craze appeared just as property developers unveiled plans to create a ‘mini Ibiza dedicated solely to partying’ on the currently deserted man-made island of Ras Al Khaimah, 40 minutes by car away from downtown Dubai.
Sales and marketing director George Saad said the £3.2billion ‘Dream Island’ will have no residents or houses and promised it will be focused entirely to partying.
“People will be able to come here, stay in the hotel party at clubs on the beach, anything in the world you can do,” he told the Daily Mail.
“And we are trying to attract festivals to come here – like Burning Man,” he added.
