Berlin’s Stattbad Suddenly Shuts Down
Acclaimed underground Berlin nightclub Stattbad was closed without notice this week, forcing party promoters to relocate to brand new party space Birgit and Bier at the 11th hour.
Writing on Facebook, Grounded Theory’s John Osborn blamed ‘legal issues’ for the closure though Stattbad themselves were more oblique.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances we are forced to shut the doors of Stattbad and change the location till further notice,” they wrote in a posting on their own Facebook page.
“We found a great replacement!” they continued, ”The new venue is right behind Chalet Club and easy to reach from Schlesische Strasse.
Please spread the word to make sure everyone is informed.”
Best known as the main location for Boiler Room’s Berlin podcasts, Stattbad has the distinction of being the only large-scale underground club in West Berlin, bringing hoards of clubbers to Wedding every weekend.
Its temporary location to Birgit and Bier, located in the Kreuzberg clubbing hotspot of Schlesische Strasse (right next to Chalet, Ipse, Club de Visionare and Arena) continues the relentless march Eastwards of Berlin nightlife.
