Roger Sanchez responded belatedly to last week’s story about the rise of self obsessed narcissistic US college students, telling Skrufff.com (this week) ‘narcissism? a touchy subject!’

“I have met LOADS of people who are so self-involved that other people are no more than objects to reflect their glory, usually club promoters and, on occasion DJs and most certainly a few managers,” the Amnesia Ibiza resident DJ confided.

“How do I handle them? I try to smile (whilst imagining my hands circling their throats and squeezing) and I ignore their attitudes, reminding myself – “they are only here to bask in my glory,” he laughed.

The US house legend admitted feeling ambiguous about the rich (‘some certainly worked hard enough for it, while for others, their trust fund is seen as a source or personal validation for their superiority to the unwashed masses’) though less so about his own massive DJ fees.

“What do I think of DJs earning five figures fees? What- ‘choo gotta problem wid dat?!! Don’t make me t’row youze a beatin!” ( In my best Goodfellas/ Jersey Shore accent)” he smiled.

Charles from Technasia also shared some additional pearls of wisdom about identifying egotistical DJs this week and suggested most fall into three generic categories: the ‘egotistic’, the ‘ego-normous‘ and the ‘Ego-Twitter’.

“Firstly there’s the true one and only ‘Egotistic’, which is usually what he’s become because at some point in his life he’s actually had some genuine talent,” said Charles. “It can be actually quite fun to hang around with him once in a while for a good laugh.”

“Then, there’s the type I would describe as the ‘Ego-normous’, who never had any talent whatsoever but was lucky enough to sniff too much free fishscale (cocaine) with the right people at the right time,” he explained.

“This DJ is usually covered in tattoos, obsessed with fucking teenagers, wears lots of rings and picks his nose all the time for some juicy boogers that he can never find. Avoid him at all cost!” he recommended.

“Then finally there’s the infamous ‘Ego-twitter’, the one who posts everything about his oh so exciting life, from his Heathrow gate number to that chicken-or-ham-sandwich.”

“He also posts pictures from the DJ booth when it’s a full house (though never when it’s empty). To deal with this guy, set up a fake Facebook account and start posting crap on his wall. He’ll block you pretty quickly but it’s fun while it lasts,” he advised.
