Sasha Savages Deadmau5 & Plastikman
EDM founders Richie Plastikman Hawtin and Joel Deadmau5 Zimmerman agreed that ‘today’s electronic dance music suffers from the pursuit of commercial success’, the Wall Street Journal reported this week, in a review of their joint appearance at SXSW.
Deadmau5 also revealed he’s ‘always aspired to be a lot more underground and less big room sound’ at the SXSW conference debate as well as confessing ‘without the mousehead . . . young listeners might not be interested’ (WSJ: http://on.wsj.com/Y9uJuf )
Commenting on Twitter, UK house legend Sasha seemed unimpressed.
“fuck edm…………Deadmau5/Hawtin tell ?#SXSW commercial $$$ killing electronic music,” he responded.
“Great advice for young producers. Without a silly hat no one will listen to you ?@deadmau5”, he added. https://twitter.com/sashaofficial
Zimmerman and Hawtin’s attack on commercially minded EDM producers came just days before Vegas’ newest nightclub Hakkasan confirmed they’ll be paying him $425,000 per show for a season of performances which will see him lining up alongside Steve Aoki and Tiesto (who’s being paid just $250,000 per set).
“With all the projects I have going on right now, I’m so excited to be back in Vegas doing what I love to do best,” Deadmau5 commented on his new deal.
Sasha’s new mix compilation ‘Involv3r’ is out shortly.
